I was not much into opera before. I thought it was dull, and stupid (like, why would you sing what you can say!) And then I happened to see Aida in Metropolitan Opera in New York. It blew my mind. The sheer scale of the production, the gilded sets representing the pharaoh’s palace, the tragic story! I bet, the music by Verdi and the signing by some of the world’s best voices (this being Metropolitan) were nice too, but I lack education in performing arts to really be able to assess that. Long story short, I suddenly realized – opera can be awesome, even for an ignorant rube like me. Ever since then, seeing all of the most famous operas and visiting all of the world’s most prominent opera houses is definitely on my bucket list.
